by Felicia Rice
First Edition, First Printing, Signed in Person

We now have signed copies of Doc/Undoc: Documentado/Undocumented Ars Shamanica Performatica available, signed in person by authors and contributors Felicia Rice, Jennifer A. González, Gustavo Vazquez, and Guillermo Gómez-Peña at our event with them at Bookshop Santa Cruz February 20th, 2018.

What does it mean to be documented or undocumented? How do these terms work across borders and boundaries, languages and nations?

These are the questions fueling the experimental artwork-in-a-box, Documentado/Undocumented, a book art piece that explores the intersection of printmaking, typography, performance, video, sound art, and installation. Doc/Undoc presents this multi-media, multi-disciplinary artists' collaboration in book form, documenting a unique and wildly ambitious adventure into the experimental realms of modern book arts. Included are a lush, photographic recreation of the installation, a reproduction of the codex, an essay by art historian Jennifer A. Gonzalez who situates the project in the context of bookmaking, performance art, and cabinets of curiosities. An introductory essay by Felicia Rice tells the story of the collaboration: its genesis, development, execution, and its ongoing intention. In addition, the book is packaged with a USB drive containing the installation version's original sound art by Zachary James Watkinsand video art by Gustavo Vazquez.

by Thad Vogler
First Edition, First Printing, Signed in Person

We now have signed copies of By the Smoke and the Smell available, signed in-person by Thad Vogler at our event with him February 8th at Venus Spirits.

"Thad Vogler brings the personal deep into his work, enthusiastically and unabashedly sharing his process for choosing the spirits with which he stocks his bar, while allowing you to fall a little in love with each farm, each distiller. He consciously seeks out those who love their craft, and insists on the same farm to table traditions that have become ubiquitous in the foodie scene. Each bottle is a connection to him, a piece of history he deems worthy of serving to his patrons. It’s a tale of advocacy for the independents, the family owned businesses, and those who labour out of love. I can say with certainty that this book has found a place close to my heart, and I can’t wait till I can next visit Bar Agricole." - Jax, Bookshop staff

by Joe Tone
First Edition, First Printing, Signed Title Page

We have signed copies available of Bones: Brothers, Horses, Cartels, and the Borderland Dream, signed on the title page by Joe Tone.

Joe Tone's riveting, exquisitely layered crime narrative, set against the high-stakes world of horse racing, is an intimate story about family, loyalty, and the tragic costs of a failed drug war. Compelling and complex, Bones sheds light on the perilous lives of American ranchers, the morally dubious machinery of drug and border enforcement, and the way greed and fear mingle with race, class, and violence along America's vast Southwestern border.

by Louise Erdrich
First Edition, Tip-In, Specially Bound

We now have signed copies of Future Home of the Living God available, signed by Louise Erdrich on a tip-in sheet specially bound by the publisher.

"Having binge-watched the television adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale, coupled with current politics, I swore off dystopian stories for the time being just so I could catch my breath. Until, of course, I caught word that my favorite author’s new title was just that. Future Home of the Living God tells the story of one woman, Cedar, who at four months pregnant, is suddenly thrown into a fight for survival when the state of genetic evolution starts to reverse itself. Plants and animals are reproducing species that have long been extinct and there are whispers that the children being born aren’t surviving or if they are, something is very wrong with them. The government responds by gathering genetic data and institutionalizing pregnant women. As Cedar’s pregnancy progresses, we watch the journey that she must endure to protect her unborn child. While this genre is a departure for Erdrich, Future Home of the Living God explores themes familiar to her other books, examining self-identity, loyalty, and the importance of redemption within family. This is a taut and intense whirlwind of a read—whew." - S.M.C.

by Nathan Englander
First Edition, First Printing, Tip-In

We have signed copies of Dinner at the Center of the Earth available, signed by Nathan Englander.

"Englander has tackled the intimate and the impossible, looking with a novelist’s eye at the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the cycles of harm, and the notions of identity, loyalty, and possibility. An unnamed prisoner and his guard, an Israeli spy, a traitor, a conscience and a powerful leader trapped in a coma -- how they connect is both a simmering espionage tale, a bit of a love story and a parable for our complicated times." - Melinda, Bookshop Santa Cruz Head Book Buyer

by Janet Fitch
First Edition, First Printing, Signed in Person

We now have signed copies available of The Revolution of Marina Msigned in-person by Janet Fitch, at our event with her on Sunday, November 12th, 2017.

"To grow up in the midst of a violent revolution, especially with the soul of a poet, is to be forever marked. Marina comes from a well-off Russian family. Her life is also poised on the edge of the Russian Revolution. This is a story of passion, betrayal, and revolt. I was utterly drawn in by Marina’s story and read it on the edge of my seat." - Ivy, Bookshop

by Joseph Fink & Jeffrey Cranor
First Edition, First Printing, Signed in Person

We now have signed copies of It Devours! available, signed by Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor, creators of Welcome to Night Vale, at our event with them on November 8th, 2017.

Night Vale is back! All new cast, all new story. Nilanjana wasn't born in Night Vale and the denizens won't let her forget it. Mostly by shouting "Interloper!" anytime she shows up. Which is really okay because she's a scientist and that is Important. However, when Night Vale's citizens begin to disappear, leaving only a gaping maw in the ground, Nilanjana is thrown headlong into the world of a strange new religion. Or maybe a cult. Perhaps a mob? Hard to say. Point is, religion and science go head to head and the final fight is quite... poignant, actually. You truly don't need to know anything about the world to enjoy the heck out of this story. Just be ready for an excellent ride through the strangest town you've never heard of before. - Ivy, Bookshop Santa Cruz Staff

by Nicole Krauss
First Edition, Tip-In, Specially Bound

We now have signed copies of Forest Dark by Nicole Krauss available!

"I look forward to each new Krauss novel, and for good reason. Her latest is an exploration of identity and belonging. An aging lawyer and a struggling writer travel to Israel in near-intersecting stories, each searching for something unknowable, and the not knowing is the prize. Add in some Kafka, some metaphysical philosophizing, oh and the multiverse, and you have an intellectual journey in want of a curious reader. Let it be you." - Melinda, Bookshop Santa Cruz Head Book Buyer
