This is a lovely, informative, and beautiful book that is sure to inspire gardeners of every level. British landscape and garden designer Dan Pearson, author of numerous books and host of his own BBC series, excelled at designing his clients’ gardens but, as a city dweller, missed the daily wonders of tending to his own soil. This warm, personal book (which reminds me of Nigel Slater’s Tender) chronicles the renovation, planting, and nurturing of the new space he moves to just outside the heart of London. Home Ground is also filled with absolutely gorgeous photographs that capture both the grand vision and delicate beauty of Pearson’s garden. Highly recommended.

The work of Bernard Maybeck, one of the Bay Area’s most iconic architects, is celebrated in this gorgeous new book. The warmth and elegance of his buildings, which include the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco and the First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Berkeley, have influenced countless architects for more than four generations. Maybeck’s development of a nature-based design philosophy and his ability to balance historicism and modernity place him among the most important American architects of all time. This is the first comprehensive book on Maybeck in nearly 20 years, and it includes personal reflections of his family, old photos, drawings, and paintings both by and about Maybeck, and absolutely beautiful photographs of his buildings. A knockout.

A gorgeous guide to all the plants and flowers you could ever wonder about. The American Horticultural Society is a leading expert on the cultivation of plants, so this is just as full of thorough information as it is of pretty pictures. This fully revised edition is a great guide on how to grow, when to grow, and what to grow where. The new organization makes it easy to navigate and a pleasure to look at.

Jere and Emilee Gettle, founders of the fantastic Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company, have just published a wonderful new book. “Their joyous message is that gardening can be done wherever you have dirt, sun, water, and pure seeds. At the heart of the book is an extensive ‘A to Z growing guide’ that provides tips on growing, seed saving, pests and diseases, and preparation for preparing plants from amaranth to watermelon. In this lavishly illustrated guide, the Gettles convince us of the benefits of getting into the garden, gently encouraging and guiding us with steps for doing so.” —Publishers Weekly

This beautiful book highlights some of the most amazing makeovers that O’Connor and his team have given to houses, barns, and mansions across the nation. O’Connor’s award-winning TV series, This Old House, has documented all of the gutting and rebuilding, and in this book he expounds on the choicest properties. The very best parts are the before and after pictures, and the daydreams that ensue.

This exciting book provokes oohs and aahs galore! Nelson reveals architectural wonders not only in the United States where treehouses are proliferating rapidly, but also in the forests of Brazil, Bali, Costa Rica, and Japan, among others. Be inspired by the Free Spirit Spheres in Canada (pg 26), or learn about the Secret Garden Treehouse in Seattle.
